For beginners using leaf blowers, they may be a little confused about the technique used. If you know the techniques used will achieve the best results.

Here are some tips for using a leaf blower:

 • Divide the cleaning area into different small areas
 • Start blowing in one corner of the yard and blow in the middle of the area.
 • Blow into small piles of leaves for each area. Do not try to make a large pile for all areas that need cleaning.
 • Change the speed of the wind to suit each type of leaf, debris, ... to get the best effect
 • You can blow the leaves into a large canvas and transport the leaves to other places easily.
 • If the leaf blower has a vacuum feature, you should use this feature to grind the leaves into small pieces, to make fertilizer for your garden.

How to deal with the housekeeping, when you have an infant?

The best way to do it summed in just a couple of words – make it simple! Clear the surfaces of tables, desks and cabinets in the house. Either way, you need to make them safe for the baby. If you are still pregnant, do a cleaning and discard of unnecessary items now. Decide which aspect of the neat and clean house is important to you and your partner and learn to be satisfied with this (for now). A phrase that you can remember is “people before things.” Your baby is small for such a short time. Your kids will remember the hugs, the walkings and the fun family activities. The messy house will not make an impression to them! It can be difficult to leave the house if it’s messy though if your parents were clean freaks. But admit it, taking care of the baby and to breastfeeding it can take many hours, every day. Something should be dropped out!

Include your partner in the household duties, even if so far they weren’t involved. Perhaps you will be the one who will have a baby and will be spending much more time at home. However, the childcare takes enough time and effort and parenting is often a full day (and night) job. Be realistic: The fact, that you’re at home with a baby does not mean that you will be able to maintain the house.

Use a box, which can go from room to room, in which you can put different items, toys and clothes. The rooms will look more organized. You can put the items on their places later on.

If your baby does not want to be left alone, wear it in a sling and learn to do some things together (you’ll be surprised how many things you can do that way).

How to deal with the housekeeping, when you have an infant

Make a list of “to do” things and sort them by importance. When you remove even one thing every day, you will feel that you had accomplished something. Do not forget to write down the dozens of small everyday things – shopping, garbage disposal, etc., they also take time and effort. You will start feeling like you are a tenant in your own home, but that’s absolutely normal. If you feel like you’re getting overwhelmed simply book a one off or end of tenancy cleaning and start everything over

Don’t make huge plans yet. Find ways to do your work on parts – ten minutes each. If you are trying to do all things from beginning to end as you used to do before, it will be frustrating if your baby constantly interrupts you.

When cooking, stick to simplicity as well. When you have the opportunity and a little more time, cook double portions of food and freeze them. Use a pressure cooker or stew in which to cook on slow fire – so you can put your meal cooked in the morning when the baby is probably more pleased, instead of the last minute of the evening, when it can be nervous. Use recipes that are quick and easy to prepare. If you do not have the opportunity and the free time to cook that day, buy or order something over the phone – this could be a good option, not always low-cost, though.

Finally, do not be afraid to ask for help! You are a person not the “Super Mother”, and it is normal sometimes to “give up” for a while. If friends or relatives come to visit, do not deflect their questions politely, “Do you need anything” – accept their proposal to bring you something cooked or let them wash the dishes or to vacuum. Especially women, who already have children – they are fully aware that a baby needs care and will understand if you honestly admit, that you need some help. Domestic help can also be a great option for grandparents, who want to be helpful.

There are tons of helpful tips on how to make things easier for you and lots of them can be found on the MumsNet website. Tons of articles on making life easier for the stay at home mum have been written and there’s more information than you could imagine on the topic.

How to decorate your garden

How to decorate your garden
How to decorate your garden

Organic gardening is a centuries old technique whereby only natural products are used for fertilizing and for removing disease and pests. Organic gardening has become popular again because people are concerned about what commercial fertilizers, pest control products and products for removing disease are doing to our food and water.

Some commercial fertilizers and pest controls have been linked to cancer and other diseases. When we eat foods that have been grown using commercial herbicides and pesticides, we may be exposing ourselves to harmful toxins.

Here are a few tips for gardening organic. Rose bushes will do very well under organic conditions. Gardening organic, rose gardening included, requires three adjustments from traditional gardening methods. You must adjust how you fertilize, how you rid your garden of pests, and how you control garden diseases.

Fertilizing – Use compost. Make compost yourself by saving your garden clippings and natural materials from your kitchen like coffee grounds, eggshells, and fruit and vegetable peels and scraps. If you prefer, you can buy your compost from the garden store. Manure is also great for organic gardening. Organic rose bushes will respond well to this type of fertilizer.

How to decorate your garden

Garden pests –There are several home remedies that you can use for pests. Many garden bugs can be controlled using simple dish soap. Aphids, which are common on roses, can be controlled by having an abundance of ladybugs in your garden, and by planting wildflowers nearby. There are also many organic pesticides that you can purchase at your garden store.

Diseases – There are many home remedies that are successful for helping you control disease while gardening. Organic rose bushes are susceptible to powdery mildew, for example. For a home remedy, you can use 10 parts water mixed with 1 part organic milk and spray on the leaves. Just be sure to rinse it off after a day or two to avoid a sour milk smell on your roses. In addition to this, there are organic fungicides available.

There are a wide variety of products to help you with gardening organic. Today, most gardening stores and large home improvement centers carry organic products – so they are no longer difficult to find or extremely expensive. Rose bushes will respond well to these natural products and home remedies. Organic rose gardening is a responsible and healthy way to approach rose gardening. Organic rose bushes will be every bit as healthy and beautiful as their counterparts that are grown with commercial pesticides and herbicides. So, happy gardening! Your organically grown roses are sure to be the pride of your garden.

Home decorating ideas for small apartments

Decorating a small room is a unique challenge for every designer as well as the homeowner.   What is more important is what you do with every available space. Maximize the use of whatever spaces you have by following these simple tips.

If you are avid collector you can’t collect and display as much stuff as people who live in big houses. Always remember that less is more and displaying all your collection will give the area a very cluttered and untidy appearance.   Aside from placing too many accessories around your small living area, it’s also important to take steps to keep household clutter not to accumulate throughout your home. Buy furniture which can serve more than one purpose and double as storage pieces, such as the coffee table with built-in drawers and storage ottomans.  Maximize the use of tables around the house by using it as a dining table or a study table.

Sofa beds are the most suitable for small apartment because they require less space and can be transformed and use as the double sized bed. You can actually use large, comfortable sofa in small spaces provided that you choose the ones that are simple and elegant in design as well as serviceable. A large sofa can be the focal point of the small den or family room as long as it isn’t crowded out by too many accessories.

In a small living room, use mirrors to reflect light throughout the whole room and create an idea of a large room. The living room should also have clean, neutral-colored walls and the original floors painted a cool shade of gray. Don’t use or minimize the use of rugs to keep the fussiness to a minimum. Don’t overcrowd your walls with too much wall décor and wall paintings to keep the space from feeling closed and cramped.

Curtains made from embroidered fabric and window blinds are also good choices for the curtain small space apartment. Pick a unique and attractive color for the curtains and hang them at the ceiling to make the ceiling height appear more for the person entering the room.   A light curtain fabric will provide the room with natural light and air.

You can successfully give your small living space the illusion of being much larger space than it really is by the type of lighting you choose. Incorporate recessed lighting and strategically placed up lights and down lights throughout your home to make the living area seem much more sizeable.  Home lighting fixtures like  lamps  will provide soft lighting and make the room look spacious.
In small apartments, the dining area also serves as the kitchen area, so equipped your kitchen only with appliances that are frequently use and do not buy those appliances that are large and seldom used same with eating and cooking utensils.

Living in a cozy, well-decorated small home with a beautiful and personal living area has advantages and disadvantages but as long as it meets your needs, the only thing that matters is, it is your home.

Keep the Garden Beautiful, Keep the Dogs Happy

Dog owners love their dogs and gardeners love their gardens, but sometimes these two passions can mix, and when a gardener has a dog that loves to dig holes in his garden and rip out plants, this immediately becomes a cause for alarm. Because gardens take many years of hard work to grow and dog lovers find it hard to hate their pets, a mischievous dog threatening the state of the garden easily creates a line that can separate and divide a gardener between his passion, the garden, and his love, the dog.

So should a passionate gardener keep his garden in good shape if the dog he loves keeps trying to ruin it? The answer, keep the dog happy.

Cesar Millan has been a very visible figure in the world of dog training for the last eight years with his hugely popular TV show, the Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan. And while some disagree with some of his methods, a lot of people agree that they do work and that Cesar does in fact have a very intuitive understanding of dog psychology. Keeping this in mind, what does Cesar’s way of training dogs have to offer in making sure that the your dogs don’t destroy your precious garden?

Cesar Millan

Cesar Millan always offers the same advice to every dog owner he encounters: dogs must be given exercise, discipline, and affection everyday in order to keep them happy. On his television show, Cesar is often shown reminding dog owners that dogs are dogs, not humans, and as dogs they don’t have the same needs that humans do. Sure, dogs need to eat and play in order to grow, but in order for your dogs to live a fulfilling life, their other needs need to be provided for as well.

According to Cesar, dogs are always looking for a job to do, whether it’s protecting someone, sniffing out something, or chasing after something else. If you’re dog is digging holes in your backyard and ruining your garden, then chances are that’s what it perceives as it’s job because it has nothing else to do. Dogs have a lot of energy that they need to expend everyday in a job, and if they aren’t given a job to do, it’s likely they will make one up for themselves.

Your dog’s job fulfills the dog’s two most important needs, exercise and discipline. Exercise is fulfilled by the energy required to perform that task and discipline is fulfilled by needing to stay within the parameters of that job. Conversely, if your dog doesn’t have a job to do, it must expend energy and maintain discipline another way, and this is where we can begin to correct a dog’s habit of ripping up the garden.

Exercise your dog, walk him every day at least twice a day in order to expend the energy he would otherwise use to dig up and destroy your garden. Walk your dog until he begins to pant somewhat heavily. Some dogs will also require more exercise than you can provide by just walking it every day. If that is the case, you can increase the amount of energy it will need to expend by making the exercise more strenuous. Cesar Millan often does this by using inline skates so he can go faster and to allow the dog to pull him along. Another good way is by playing fetch in a large open area so you can throw the ball far enough to allow your dog enough time to build into a fast sprint.

The area of discipline fulfilled by providing that exactly. Make sure that your dog lives within a set of guidelines. Correct your dog every time it doesn’t comply with them in a calm yet assertive manner. Create fixed routines for your dog so that it knows what it needs to do and how it needs to act at certain times of the day.

Keeping your dog happy is the best way of making sure that your garden stays beautiful even with dogs in your care. Provide it with lots of exercise, discipline, and affection and you can be sure that you will never have a problem with it destroying your garden again.

Termites: The essentials you need to know

Your home is the only place where you can feel really comfortable but what if your home is infested with pests and insects such as bed bugs or termites, would you still feel comfortable staying inside your house? The most common pest for homeowners is the termites. The termites are tiny, determined and can easily get in their way into the wooden parts of your home. The termites continue to work and eat non-stop and without sleeping.

The termites are so tiny that can manage to enter your home through an opening such as a crack than is as thin as a piece of writing paper. The termites can and will enter and eat their way through your home, if your home gives off moisture, food and adequate temperature for them. There are a million termites at your house. With this rate, it is easy for the termites to rapidly cause severe structural damage to your home.

There have been studies that show that termites can cause more yearly damage to home in the United States than that of the tornadoes, hurricanes, hail, wind and thunderstorms combined, which cost homeowners more than a billion dollars every year. But you do not need to be alarmed since there are ways to protect your home from destruction caused by termite infestation.

Termites: The essentials you need to know

Inspecting your home
You have to take advantage of the good weather and utilize it to intimately inspect the basement of your house and look for any obvious signs of termites. The termite dropping is a clear sign of a potential termite infestation. You have to keep a keen eye on reddish-brown, small tan, or black droppings. You may use the flashlight to have a most effective inspection and light on the foundation walls, windows and underneath the exterior doors. You have to intimately test the support piers, floor joists, sill plates and the foundation walls inside and outside looking for mud tubes. The profound termites live in moist soil but they tend to heavily feed on wood. These termites build mud passageways from the moist soil to the wood of your home.

Verify your termite qualms
After you have entirely examined your basement and have gathered evidences to confidently suspect a termite infestation, then you have to call a professional pest control company to evaluate the situation and verify your qualms. The expert will discuss the best possible choices to eradicate, control, prevent and treat the existing wood. Moreover, the expert will not only suggest but will also do the job such as the necessary home repairs.

The methods in protecting your home
If you happen to have a problem with termites, your local pest expert will use an approach to control and eradicate your pest issues. The pest expert will examine your home and infestation separately. It is their job to help with this problem.

Small Garden Bridges Add the Right Note

Think about using small garden bridges to add an interesting note to your garden.

Small Garden Bridges
Small Garden Bridges

Whether you add a wooden garden bridge or some other type of decorative garden bridge, it can make your garden more beautiful and alluring.

Garden bridges can be both utilitarian and beautiful in your home garden landscape. Some people use small garden bridges as an accent over a pond or creek, as a meditation spot in a Japanese or Zen garden, or simply as one more decorative addition across a "lake" of plants or flowers.

Some garden bridges arc gracefully over a stream or pond, while others extend straight and flat to the other side. There are almost as many varieties as there are gardens in the world.

Benefits of Garden Bridges

Small garden bridges are certainly beautiful. But there are other benefits as well...
•    They can lend a sense of tranquility or serenity to any garden. Although bridges are used traditionally in Japanese gardens, they can be just as effective in a non-Asian garden.
•    There are many styles and materials you can use to give your garden a truly unique "you" feel. The possibilities are almost endless!
•    Bridges aren't only useful over water... they can be placed over dry or marshy areas as well. They can also be placed over sandy areas or a dry "streambed" of stones.
As mentioned above, your small garden bridges can be made of wood, vinyl, even stone or cement. They can be merely decorative or strong enough to walk over. It's really up to you and the effect you are looking to create with this decorative garden bridge focal point.

How to Add a Garden Bridge to Your Landscape

You might decide to build your own small garden bridge if you're handy. You can find garden bridge plans online or in many landscaping books.

You might even engage a contractor to build a wooden garden bridge for you. You can also buy decorative garden bridges from many online or local garden suppliers. The approach you use is really dependent on your time, budget, and personal preferences.

Care and Maintenance of Small Garden Bridges

Whether you have a wooden garden bridge or some other type of decorative garden bridge, it's important to follow some general care and maintenance tips. For example, wooden garden bridges should be stained and sealed for maximum durability and beauty. If your bridge is put together from separate parts, be sure to check connections for tightness and safety. You may also need to clean your small garden bridge from time to time with a hose or soapy water.

I love the look of small garden bridges, no matter how large or small the garden. I encourage you to consider placing a decorative garden bridge in your backyard, if you want a landscape that is truly unique!

Beginners Tips for Gardening

One of the most enjoyable things that a person could ever do is gardening. It’s great to see when your plants are growing well and healthy. How does gardening give you benefits? Well it’s simple! This is one way of keeping your family to eat safe, clean and fresh fruits as well as veggies right from your very own backyard. You don’t need to spend time and money to go to the market anymore for them. There are a couple of things that you need to do in order to know how to let your plants grow healthy and have the benefit to not need to pay for your own nutritious consumption.

TIP #1- CHOOSING YOUR SOIL
Choosing the soil to be used is one of the most important factors that will help our plants to grow healthy. Plants love loom soil. Too sandy soil is not good because it easily gets dry especially during hot season. On the other hand, if you are going to resort for a too muddy soil it will also cause your plants to be rotten. If you desire to use an already mixed soil, you can buy it online especially if you cannot make your own compost or find a loom soil in your backyard.

TIP #2- KNOWING THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF PLANTS
There are several varieties of plants that we can grow in our own backyard. But before you plant each one of them, be sure to read the instructions on the seed pack on how to plant it, the weather condition of when to plant them and the best season that is suitable for each one of them.

TIP #3-FERTILIZATION
Most gardeners prefer commercial fertilizers that are often sold in gardening stores for their garden especially when their area or garden lot is big. But many backyard gardeners on the other hand, prefer organic fertilizers which are safer to use than commercial. But for small scale gardens composting are the most applied way to fertilize your plants. Not only to save money it can also help also make our surroundings clean by collecting dried leaves, shredded papers, fruit skins and leftovers and put it in a pit on the ground. You also have the option to use a container with a hole at the lower front to make an outlet and to discard the materials when it is ready for use.

TIP #4- WATERING
Plants really need water. Lack of water decreases the ability of your plants and crops to bear fruit or to produce green leaves. At times especially when it is hot your plants need more water to avoid dryness of the soil. The best time to water your plants is early in the morning or late in the afternoon. It is also good to observe your plants and place a cover above it or put it under the shed to avoid being hit directly by the intense summer sunlight. This will help them avoid drying up from too much heat.

Leaf Blower Safety Tips

Leaf blowers are generally considered very safe as long as you follow some simple and common sense guidelines.

Leaf Blower Safety Tips

Read the Owner’s Manual: Before using your new leaf blower for the first time, be sure to read the owner’s manual from cover to cover. Although many models are similar, all of them will have different features you should be aware of. Any safety concerns for your particular leaf blower should be highlighted in the manual and easy to spot.

Wear Eye Protection: Be sure to protect your eyes at all times when operating your leaf blower. Regular safety glasses are adequate but wrap around goggles are highly recommended. Generally speaking, it’s not the leaves you have to worry about. Considering many leaf blowers have wind speeds in excess of 150 miles per hour, flying debris such as particles or dirt or small pebble can be very hazardous. It’s also a good idea to check to make sure that your eye protection is OSHA approved.

Wear Hearing Protection: Your new leaf blower may not seem very loud but prolonged use of any power tool has the potential to damage your hearing. Simple foam ear plugs will do the trick here. They’re inexepensive and provide very good protection when inserted properly. Ear Muff style noise protection will also work perfectly but will cost more and be less comfortable.

Use GFI Protection: Whenever using any electric power tool outdoors, it’s always best to use a GFI (ground fault interrupter) protected power circuit. This type of circuit will prevent you from getting a life threatening electrical shock should something go wrong. If your home is newer, chances are that all your exterior electrical outlets are GFI protected but this is not something you should take for granted. GFI electrical outlets are easily spotted as they typically have a “test” and “reset” button located right on the outlet. If these buttons are not present, verify that the circuit is protected via a GFI circuit breaker in your home’s electrical panel. If you’re still not sure, consult a local electrician or use a plug in type GFCI extension cord like the one pictured below.

Be Aware of Surroundings: Always be aware of your surroundings when operating your leaf blower. The same flying dust and dirt that poses a hazard to you can pose a hazard to others. Avoid using your leaf blower when children are present and never point the nozzle at property that may be damaged by flying debris. Automotive finishes and some types of residential siding could be easily damaged if you’re not careful.

How to Not lose weight

After 2 weeks of extreme experimentation with food, diet, exercise, and lifestyle changes, I found a way in which to gain weight.

-Eat carbohydrates-After having limited yourself to a certain amount of carbs a day, it is not easy to bring them back into your diet. On a diet of 2,000 calories, one should have around 300 grams of carbs. Before I began eating carbohydrates on a regular basis I was probably intaking about 50 grams a day-only from vegetables. I never ate bread, sugar, or anything refined-simply because I feared the wrath of a wide backside. During my experiment , I upped my intake to around 200-300 grams a day. Let me just say...the food pyramid is crap. If you actually follow it as far as serving amounts go, you gain weight! I did, but it was probably because my body was not used to that high of a carb intake. In order to fix this dilemma, one must simply add carbs to their diet SLOWLY. A little bit more everyday will keep the jiggle from those thighs.

A problem I noticed was that many people think that by strictly counting calories, one can loose or even maintain weight-FALSE! It all depends on what you eat and how much of it you eat. If you eat 1200 calories of only bread everyday-it will show. If you eat 1200 of just fruit everyday -it will show. In order for your body to properly digest and burn the food you intake, one must get the proper amount of vitamins, minerals, and fat.

Also, you can have a little bit of any kind of food without getting fat. However, if you are like me and enjoy spending your evening in front of the television with a plate of food-STOP! This is a horrible habit, and one very hard to break. Just think every time you sit down to eat a meal, all your attention should be focused on the food. Take small bites, chew properly, and really think about how good it tastes on your taste buds. Also, by ensuring that every time you eat you are sitting at a table or eating with someone else-one will eat less.

If a snack is necessary before bed or during a movie, choose a fat free yogurt or a grapefruit. The casein protein in yogurt helps fill your belly and stays full while you are sleeping. It makes you sleep better, with less waking up. Grapefruits are also good because they are very low in calories , help stabilize your blood sugar, and help satisfy all cravings.

One last thing, even though the food pyramid says to have a certain amount of foods on a daily basis-this is not necessary. What you eat and how much of it you eat in order to maintain the proper weight all depends on your size. For me, I am a 125 lb female and therefore only take in around 1200-1500 calories a day. If I go over this, I usually gain weight. However, if you are larger, you can have more calories. The best thing to do is experiment with it. Write down all you have eaten in a day and weigh yourself every morning to see how much it fluctuates.

Remember...mind over matter. The food does not control you, you control the food
